knitting and reading

I love getting mail.  Have I mentioned that before?  Typically the only mail that I get these days are of the "please mail payment" variety, and I would imagine that is because I am not sending out the cards and letters that I had hoped to send out around the turn of the new year.  But, almost better than mail from friends and family, is the arrival of a package.  And my favorite kind of package?  One that includes books.  In fact, if you have some books you would like to send me, please let me know.

Last week I received such a package.  I had won a giveaway from the lovely Amy of A Faithful Journey, for a book called Gone to Ground.  It is a great murder mystery/suspense book, and I am enjoying every bit of it.  I was needing something a bit different than the romance I have been reading, or the reference books that I seem to always turn to.  And researching homeschooling was starting to get me a little too anxious.  This is definitely a breath of fresh air!

As far as the knitting goes, well, I am still knitting both the scarf for my awesome mother's helper, and also Emma's hat (that I may have knit large enough to accommodate my head as well...).  They are both relatively easy patterns that I can pick up when I want to.  I haven't wanted to do too much knitting, unfortunately, it has been entirely too sticky.  But, I do realize that we are now in the middle of August, and I have a lot of knitting that I need to get to before Christmas...I know how awful it is to mention Christmas before Thanksgiving, but it is always in the back of my mind.  And since I am probably the slowest knitter imaginable...well...I will let you make your own assumptions :-)

I am linking up with the very awesome yarn along today.  Looking forward to new book and knitting ideas.  All of the ladies are so talented!

  2. Lucky you for winning the book!
I usually start preparing for Christmas after my son's birthday in April (although this year I've been a bit lax). It's the only way if you want to give homemade gifts and I love squirrelling away things I've made and having that reassuring feeling that I wont be working my fingers to the bone come December!

  3. I love getting mail too! I've sent a postcard or letter to my sis almost every week this year and she even send me some postcards - and it was so nice to find an envelope in my mailbox in dorms. :) - oh I can only imagine how awesome that would be to get a book in mail!
my favorite kind of package is the one with yarn in it :D but books are awesome too! :)

  5. That scarf is beautiful! I love the color.
Now that you mention it...I should probably start making my list of things to make for Christmas. I usually start over the summer, but the move has thrown me off my schedule this year. I'm so glad for the reminder! xo

  7. How exciting getting mail other than bills! Happy reading. I could start Christmas projects at the start of the year, and still get distracted and not get everything made that I had intended. Fingers crossed you do better than me! Jacinta

  8. I'll mail you a book if you want, and don't mind one that's been read. I read a lot, and am always dropping off boxes of books at Goodwill. I'd be happy to pass a favorite along you way.

  18. You should become a book reviewer for Bethany House publishers. Just google it and sign up. I have been doing it for over 3 years and LOVE IT! Once youve read the book, you just write a little review, you can see my blog to see how it works, then I copy and paste the review Ive written on Amazon or you could choose another internet site that lists book reviews. I tried reviewing for a few other companies but they were sticklers and had too many requirements for my tastes. Ive dropped out of all of them except Bethany House. Once I have written my review I have a box to save to give my mother when I visit her and a box to donate to my church library. I love being able to share with others! Hope this helps.
