oh happy day!

Have you ever had a day when you just don’t want to turn on the computer?  Well, yesterday was like that for me!  Sorry about not posting, but I had to get outside and enjoy the sun before it started raining (which it is currently doing here).

In other news, last night Matt happened to find these in our chicken coop.

We haven’t been checking because, well, we didn’t think that they would have started laying yet.  These are obviously very small eggs, so I think they are the first eggs that our ladies are laying.  The unfortunate thing?  We had to get rid of them.  The eggs could have been there for a while, and we were not sure.  More than likely they were fine, but I did not want to make anyone sick just to have them.  But, now we know that we need to start checking every day!

I wanted to crack them open to see if they had yolks, I wasn’t entirely sure because the eggs were so small, and I have heard that sometimes they can have no yolk.  But, they had yolks…these little tiny yolks were about the size of a nickel.  It was very cute 🙂
How is your day going?

  1. Wow I'm impressed they're already laying—lucky! 🙂 You're going to be full of eggs soon 🙂 And why throw them out, even if they'd been in there a few days I think they would have been fine. A hundred years ago, it's not like they put eggs in the fridge, but rather in a basket on the counter 🙂 My best gal in Savannah just called today and in the convo wanted to know who you were cause she read your comment on my friendship post and thought you and her might hit it off! 🙂 Hope you've been having a great week! Cluck cluck!!

    1. Yeah, I was under the impression that we have always had fridges with eggs 😉 After I did a little research online I realized I could have kept the eggs no problem. Of course I had already thrown them away – to which Emma had a mini meltdown! And I am sure that I would probably hit it off with your friend! Send her on over here and we can *meet* 🙂

  2. Wonderful ~ fresh eggs ~ enjoy ~ (A Creative Harbor)

ps ~ yes sometimes I wonder why I am on this 'puter' at all ~ 21st century distraction ~ and great info and photos and well you know how it is ~

    1. Our white ones are 18 weeks, and our easter eggers are 14 weeks (and not laying yet). I have heard that it can take up to 24 weeks before they start laying. It was extremely satisfying to find eggs from our chickens – even if they are tiny!
