Green Week at Townsend House

It is Green Week here at Townsend House!  Today is Earth Day, and also happens to be my birthday.  Because of this, I will be dedicating this week to everything green.  Whether it is the next part of my green journey, how I am helping my kids grow to love being a good steward of God's creation, or a couple of really fun giveaways, this week will be all about being green!

My Green Week actually started yesterday with my review of some wonderful children's books that bring to light some important environmental concerns, as well as a couple of really cool giveaways - one for a kindle fire and one for an assortment of Amazon gift cards, so be sure to stop over to that post and check it out!

I would love some reader participation this week as well.  What does it mean to you to be green?  Is it a difficult change?  Something that you (or your family) aren't really concerned about? Are you working in baby steps?  What would help you accomplish some of your green goals?

I honestly believe that everyone has a different view of green living.  For me personally, it often means food safety and security.  Knowing that I can provide for my family in that way gives me a good sense of self.  And I also think that green living is about reducing the resources that you use.  For me this is good for the environment, for my husband - it is good for the wallet.

Happy Earth Day everyone!

  2. For me, going green means cutting back on "stuff," especially unnecessary stuff; which in turn cuts back on waste. I'm also trying to source our food locally. I think NOT buying food from hundreds or even thousands of miles away is good for the environment and our local economy.
    Happy, happy birthday!! :)

  4. First of all, happy birthday!!! How special to share your birthday with Earth Day :)

I totally feel the same way about food safety and security. VERY important to me. I also try to not waste anything and use up what I have until it is worn out. I really try to find a use for something before I will resort to just throwing it away. I also love vintage items and antiques so I am "accidentally green" in my fun purchases haha :)
