knitting and reading

I am happy to report that I have finished my one knitting project for the month!  It isn't the scarf that I started at the beginning of the month, it is the neck warmer/cowl that I started last week.

It may be a big surprise to most of you, but this only took me about two hours of knitting.  Obviously, it was not a large piece, or difficult, but the fact that I completed a project in two days time, at only two sittings, awesome!

I am also still knitting my scarf, and I am still enjoying the knitting and the pattern.  I forgot how long it takes to knit a scarf, but it is fun to sit and knit a few rows here and there, and I am definitely making progress.

My other crafting goal for the month is to make one other craft, whether it is something that I knit or sew or color, but I haven't started a second project yet...and we obviously only have a few days left in January (how did that happen?!), so I will have to think about that through this week and see if I can complete my crafting goal for this month or not!

As far as reading goes, last week I mentioned that I was going to start Girl Meets God and Spark Joy.  However, I didn't start either of those!  Instead I finished reading Barefoot Church by Brandon Hatmaker, and then started reading The Choice by Nicholas Sparks since the movie is coming out soon.  I have a feeling I will be crying at the end, just like all the other Nicholas Sparks books!

What are you working on this week?  Do you like to see movies after reading a book or before?

  1. I Have always wanted to learn how to knit. It's on my bucket list for sure. I want to be able to make all sorts of cute hats, mittens, scarves and other cool stuff :)

    1. It is definitely fun, and I feel like it is a useful hobby - which is good considering the amount I spend on yarn. I love to be able to justify it to my husband ;-)

  7. Yay for getting something finished! :D
I have been horrible on the knitting front. I've a shawl that I haven't touched in about two weeks, and I technically should be just about done with something for my mom's birthday (which is Friday!) and I haven't even started yet. I'm holding out a bit, though, as I don't know when I will be seeing her next, so there is not tentative due date at this point...though I do need to start soon! Okay, should have started already! xD
Also, I would much rather read the book, then watch the movie. Though I do tend to pick apart the movie more that way, comparing what they did differently, what they added, and what they left out completely! I've noticed, though, that if I see the movie first, the characters look like the movie characters, and that kind of takes the fun out of it for me (though, not always a bad thing - I watched The Princess Bride a jillion times before I read the book, and that's alright, as the casting for that was spot on!).

  12. My friend is really into Nicolas Sparks. I definitely would rather read a book first and then watch the movie, though that causes most movies to be a bit annoying since they rarely follow the movies well!

  14. I love the gorgeous hat and a bonus it only took two days to make. I like to see movies before the book because I'm never disappointed that way.

  26. Love the bold purple color. Oftentimes, I am motivated to read a book after I see a movie. I've picked up a lot afterwards. I like when they are different. One book that was a disappointment was 'Hannibal.' The movie nearly took everything word for word…and to a T with that book. I didn't like reading that one.

  28. I always find the book better than the movie. However, it's nice to see how the director imagined it so I want the movie for that purpose. This week I'm working ahead on posts to have friends visit for Mardi Gras next week already!

  29. I used to love knitting and haven't done it for so long. I love what you've done it, such an amazing job and I love the colour!

  30. Such a pretty hat -- and I can't believe you knit the cowl in 2 hours. I am such a slowpoke!

I always try to read the book before I see the movie, although sometimes it works the other way!
