Goals - 100 Books in 2016

One of my goals for this year is to read 100 books.  This has actually been a goal of mine for the past several years.  Some years it works out, some years it does not.  I thought that it would be a good idea to update you all on how I am doing this year.

My last update was in March, and I had read 15 books, only 1 book behind schedule!

However, since that post, I am only up to 31 books read, which is 12 books behind schedule...

Obviously, 31 books is great, and I am incredibly pleased with the progress that I have made, especially with all of the books I read to the kids.  Since I only count books that have over 100 pages, a lot of the books I read with the kids do not count (unfortunately).  Even though that is time that I am reading, it is not counted towards my 100 books total.  Perhaps I should start counting every 3-5 books read with the kids as one book for me!

I do seem to have a lot of books in my “currently reading” file – which is in my head actually.  I am typically a one book at a time person because what happens is I typically love all the books I am reading, and can never decide on just one to read.  So, instead of finishing them, they each are read intermittently, and only a chapter here and there – which essentially means they are part of my “currently reading” file for entirely too long.

For your understanding, the books I am currently reading are

All excellent books and not one of them is close to being done.  Well, the Mandie book is, and that is because I read it every day with the kids – plus super short.

I also have a running list of books that I want to start, but in order to start those other books I realized that I needed to finish all of my “in progress” books.  I have decided to take them one book at a time and try to power through them all.  I feel like if I can just finish one on the list, I will be able to move on to new books – which I want to do!

Do you ever get stuck reading all kinds of books, but not finishing any?  Or do you only read one book at a time? Or, third option, do you read many books at once, but actually finish them easily?

  1. I honestly haven't picked up a book since high school, but when I did read, I could only do one at a time. Any more than that would mess with my brain.

  2. First off kudos to you trying to reach your goal of 100! You're setting such a wonderful example for your babies. :) I do a reading challenge every summer with my kids, it's so much fun. I don't know how many books I've read this year, I should keep track. I have a few library books I still need to get to.
    Best of luck!

  5. I used to try and read that many books a year, too. I certainly would love to do so again but I just can't seem to find the time to do it anymore. You can reach your goal, though, I know it!

  7. That is a lot of books. I am lucky if I get three in for a year.

  8. I used to read multiple books at a time. When, ya know, I was actually making time to read. Now, I can only have one on the go at a time, and even finishing that one is spotty. I've never read 100 books in a year before, though - I've never counted before, but I know it was never that many. I like taking breaks xD

  9. I used to be able to read a LOT of books, sometimes 2 in one day because I'm a really fast reader. I love books and my Kindle is filled with hundreds of it. Maybe you can catch up even though you're about 12 behind. Just stick with it.

  10. I am the same kind of reader that you are. I can only focus on one book at a time but sometimes I start a book, get a few chapters in and just lose excitement over them. I want to start other books but then I feel as though I wasted my money and time by not finishing the others! I do, however, Love Love Love any book by Erika Robuck. She writes historical fiction and about authors like Hemingway and F Scott Fitzgerald, which in turn has then peeked my interest in reading their books as well.

  11. I'm impressed. My goal was 50 books and I've only read 10 so far! Yikes! I tend to try and read one book at a time because I don't want to mix up the stories. I'm easily confused.

  12. I am a huge reader and think 100 books is a great goal. I can't read more than one at a time, though. I need to get into a story and keep going!

  13. This is such a wonderful goal! I love to read whenever I get a free day, I usually read a book a day. Have you thought about audiobooks? I got a couple for long car rides, and I love them :) (doesn't beat the feel of a book, but very convenient!)

  17. What a great goal! I used to read a couple books a week, but I kind of lost touch with reading. Definitely want to start reading again more. You're doing a great job towards your goal.

  18. Oh, it reminded me of my university years... We were supposed to read 100 books in 4 months for one of the classes! I was reading everywhere and several books at a time. I did finish all of them, but it was quiet a challenge! Now I prefer having no more than two books going on at the same time. I love how determined you are to meet your goal!
