It is strawberry season right now, and I am loving it! The past few years have not been that great for strawberries. Either we were hit with a late frost…or it would rain the entire month of June. This year, however, is a great year. The strawberries are delicious, and I knew that I would be able to finally make some strawberry jam, which I haven’t done in several years.
Both Emma and Jack had so much fun this year strawberry picking! It was also the first year that I could kind of get some of my own picking done without worrying about the littles.
Jack loved it, and filled up his quart container three different times. Each time he filled it up, he would put his strawberries in with Matt’s flat and then be back at it. I think he picked some of the biggest strawberries out there!
When I came home I knew that I needed to get the strawberries made into jam. So I did. Of course, in my hustle for getting it done quickly, I *may* have grabbed an old box of pectin.
Unfortunately, this caused the jam to separate into strawberry jam and strawberry jelly. But, while it may not look the prettiest, it still tastes delicious! I also realized that strawberry jam takes an awful lot longer to make than apple jelly, so I only have 9 half pints done right now. I would like to say I will get out strawberry picking one more time, but I’m not that confident. We will see what the weekend brings!
