3 Features I love about Teaching Textbooks

We have been using Teaching Textbooks since 2018, it is a great option for homeschool math. Today I am going to share three features I love that keep us coming back year after year!

Automatic Grading

The top draw that Teaching Textbooks has for me is the automatic grading. The option to have the program itself do all of the grading is so helpful for a busy homeschool mom. One of the best parts about the grading is that it saves time. Instead of having to spend extra time on correcting the math work, Teaching Textbooks does it for me.

Along with the automatic grading is the ability to see a video solution for every single problem. This definitely sets them apart in my book. I love that if my kids have trouble with a problem, they can start with a hint, and then, if they still struggle and cannot come up with the right answer, there is a full walkthrough of the problem. This helps with mastery, as well as challenging concepts that the student may be struggling with.

If your student has really struggled with a lesson, you have the ability as the parent to go into the parent portal, select the lesson, and then delete the wrong answers so the student has the opportunity to go in and fix the problems. It gives you, the parent, the opportunity to help them move through their work if they are struggling.

The Option to Print Lessons

One of the first things that made me super excited about Teaching Textbooks was the ability to print any lesson we wanted from the online e-book. This was especially helpful when my kids were doing a lot of activities and we had to do car-schooling. While Teaching Textbooks is app-based, and you can work on the lessons without the internet, car-schooling worked better for us with paper.

When we got home, my kids would be able to input their answers into the lesson for the self-grading, as well as make any corrections that needed to be made before they moved onto the next lesson.

Another benefit of the ability to print out the lessons is for the upper level maths. Sometimes having the paper in front of you is an additional help when moving through more difficult concepts. One of my kids loved to do all of their lessons on paper, and the other loved the ability to use the on-screen notepad to figure out answers. I like that the options are there for any type of learner you have.

Free Tutoring

One of the best features of Teaching Textbooks that I don’t think a lot of people know about is their free tutoring services. This is a feature that is often overlooked, but so helpful, especially as you get into the high school levels where the parent may not be as much help as they were in elementary and middle school.

The way the free tutoring works is that you would call their customer service line, give them the lesson and problems the student is struggling with, and then one of their tutors will call back and walk your student through whatever the concept is that they are struggling with.

The option of free, private tutoring is an amazing benefit. Sometimes a student just needs a little extra help, and Teaching Textbooks offers that for free.

Teaching Textbooks has been one of the long-lasting curriculum choices in our homeschool for the above three reasons (as well as many more!).
