How to be Flexible using Teaching Textbooks
Thank you to Teaching Textbooks for sponsoring this post. As always, opinions are my own!
One of the best parts of homeschooling is the flexibility that it offers. You, as the homeschool parent, get to choose what and how to homeschool your kids. This has been something that I have really appreciated over our homeschool career. And when there are curricula and resources that help you continue that flexibility, that is an added bonus.
Teaching Textbooks has been that for us for math in our homeschool. Teaching Textbooks is the math program that we have used since 2018. This year my middle guy will be entering his final year with Teaching Textbooks, using their Pre-Calculus program.
Why we need Flexibility
I have talked at length in the past about how flexible Teaching Textbooks is for when we were doing a lot of car-schooling. The ability to do math offline for up to 6 lessons before having to connect to the internet and update the app was incredible. But, besides that, you have the option to print out any and all lessons with your access to the 12-month digital course.
This year, however, I decided to go the extra mile and get the Pre-Calculus Textbook to go with the digital course. Why? Primarily so that my son can follow along as he is going through all of the exercises. I think in the higher level maths, having the physical book in front of you to refer to is a nice bonus. This can definitely be achieved by printing out each lesson for your student as they go, or even printing out a chapter of lessons at a time. But, for my own ease, I decided getting the book directly from Teaching Textbooks would be helpful.
Creating a Solid Plan for Pre-Calculus
The plan for this year is for Jack to continue to work through the lessons online, but have the physical book there to use at the same time. I think this hybrid approach will work extremely well as he prepares for college calculus next year, and the PSAT’s this year.
It is a bit of a different approach for me, personally, but having the book all printed and compiled is an absolute life saver for me. I don’t have to worry about printing things off or making sure that I have a binder available (pre-calculus is a beast of a course!). Overall, I am really excited about our year ahead, and finishing Jack’s high school math career with Teaching Textbooks!
If you are looking for an amazing math curriculum that will do all of the grading for you, give your student hints when needed so you don’t have to learn all of the material yourself, and give free tutoring if your student needs a little extra help, Teaching Textbooks is going to be a great addition to your homeschool. They give the first 15 lessons of every level as a free trial, that will roll over to your course once you begin the full course. If you are unsure of which level your student should be placed in, the placement tests will give you all of the answers you need!
